Book Review Sessions

“That’s the thing about books. They let you travel without moving your feet.” -Jhumpa Lahiri

Books are a great way to engage students with reading and help build a reading culture. Many of us have special memories of the books that have inspired us, and have learned the profound effect that reading the right book can have at the right moment. Books have the power to transport us to new worlds and different times.

EIS had arranged Book Review sessions (IVC's) for various classes. The books in focus were, Shakespeare Vol 2, Great Lives-Dr.A.P.J Kalam, Essential Classics -Black Beauty and Essential Classics -20,000 leagues under the sea.

A book review is a form of literary criticism in which a book is merely described  or analyzed based on content, style, and merit. A book review may be a primary source, opinion piece, summary review or scholarly review.

EIS had invited the subject matter expert Ms – Nitika Dutta Gupta who has devoted fifteen years to teaching before foraying into the world of freelance writing. She has written course books for school children, rewritten fairy tales and also written travelogues for Discover India Magazine. She not only does sessions for teachers both general (Leadership Skills, Developing Reading Habit in Children, Classroom Management, The 5 C’s of Modern Education) and subject specific (Comprehension Skills, Teaching Speaking, Phonetics, Poetry, Teaching Literary Devices, Teaching Vocabulary, teaching Creative writing) but also loves to interact with students through her sessions spanning from Story Telling to Creative Writing and everything in between.

EIS students really enjoyed these interactive book review sessions.
