Kisan Diwas

23-12-2020

Educon International School acknowledged the efforts of our farmers in various ways on the occasion of Kisan Diwas.

Farmers are the backbone of our country. India has always been considered as an agriculture-dominated country. A rich and resourceful land made it possible for Indians to adopt farming. Life of a farmer is tough and he works hard day and night in all seasons to get good crops so that we get food to eat and we stay healthy. EIS students were sensitized with these facts.

The session with Mr. Ravi Dhole of ‘Sahyadri Devrai’ enlighted us with various new learnings. He said that “Devrai” is a Marathi word for The Sacred groves of India. It means; a dense but well-managed plantation generally on the outskirts of villages. Devrai is a pretty old concept and references can be found in old literature meaning ‘God’ and rai means’ forest’. This word was what did the magic and people started growing trees instead of cutting them.

He conveyed the message about evolution of the forests from the primitive days to what role they play with all the other factors in the nature like the birds, animals, human beings. He also gave us an insight of how the organization is trying to cultivate forests and how we could join them in this endeavor.

The session was very informative.
